Rodents, like frozen mice and feeder quail, make great feeders for snakes and other reptiles. When using these pre-killed animals as food, make sure that you defrost them prior to feeding time. Here are some tips for thawing out frozen feeders:
* Remove only the number of items you need for a specific feeding.
* Place the frozen feeders into a plastic bag. Depending on your time frame, you can place the bag into the refrigerator to defrost overnight.
* Then, you will warm them up. You can do this by using warm water or you can also place the thawed out rodent on a warm surface, such as a radiator, on top of your TV or in a window seal with a patch of sun coming in. Don’t leave it for too long though, as germs can begin to develop that are unhealthy for your snake.
*Make sure to check that the frozen feeder is thoroughly defrosted, and that it is warmed up above room temperature.
