Snake Food: How to Switch a Snake from Live Food to Frozen Feeders

There are various reasons that a pet owner would want to switch their snake’s diet from live food to frozen feeder rodents. Three top reasons to make the switch are Safety, Ease and Cost. So how do you go about making the switch?

Most species of snakes will generally accept the snake food that you present to them. However, when switching to frozen mice or another type of frozen feeder, you may want to thaw it out by placing it under a heating lamp for a couple of minutes. This will give your snake the impression that the feeder has body heat, and may make it an easier switch.

In addition to thawing out the frozen feeder, you should also dangle it in front of the snake using a pair of tongs or pliers. Doing this will give the snake the impression that the feeder is alive. If these tricks do not work, don’t give up. There are other things that you can do to get your snake to make the switch. You can try “scenting,” a fast, or switching to fresh-killed first. When you’re ready to make the switch, RodenPro offers a variety of frozen feeders, including frozen pinky mice, frozen rats, and more.
